UNION DE L’ACTION FEMININE

The “Union de l'Action Feminine (UAF)” (or the Union of Women's Action) is a national non-profit organization. The UAF was born in 1983, as an informal group under the name of “Mouvement 8 mars” or the March 8th Movement in reference to International Women’s Day that year. The group, which developed over the years into a movement for the promotion of women’s rights in Morocco, became UAF in 1987. Since then, UAF has been the driving force behind the efforts aimed at raising awareness among women, decision makers, and society as a whole. UAF has consistently fought for women’s mobilization and an end to discrimination and marginalization.

It focuses its activities mainly on the following areas:

- The promotion of women's human rights.
- The harmonization of national laws with international standards, particularly CEDAW and the repeal of all discriminatory laws.
- Supporting women victims of abuse;
- The establishment of mechanisms for the protection and promotion of women's rights.
- The effective participation of women in decision-making processes and the guarantee of their full citizenship.
- Promoting functional literacy, legal and digital.
- Taking into account the gender dimension in public policies for a real integration of women in development and the fight against poverty.
- The generalization of girls' schooling and their protection from economic and sexual exploitation.
- Guaranteeing economic and social rights of women especially disabled women
- Guaranteeing equal opportunities for employment, professional promotion, access to positions of responsibility and salaries.
- The implementation of an effective and accessible reproductive health policy.

The UAF has a network of several centers "Annajda" which means "help!". The aim of these centers is to provide shelters, counselling, guidance as well as legal, medical and psychological assistance to women victims of violence.
