The association Initiative Urbaine was created in 2002 by young women and men from the Hay Mohammedi neighbourhood, with a view to responding to various issues affecting the neighbourhood's youth: reception, listening, educational support, vocational guidance, animation, cultural activities, etc. The association's mission is to help young women and men from the Hay Mohammedi neighbourhood to find a solution to their problems.
OUR OBJECTIVES
- Improving the educational attainment of children and young people
- Strengthening the employability of women and men, young people and adults
- Strengthening the link between the population and its territory
OUR MISSION
The improvement of the quality of life of the inhabitants and the development of the youth of Hay Mohammedi, through promotion and participation in community actions. Our ambition is for our projects to be part of a process of transforming mechanisms rather than supporting direct services - which are certainly necessary - but which do not reflect our orientations.
SOME EXAMPLES OF OUR INTERVENTIONS
In 2006, the Mohammed V Foundation allocated premises to the Urban Initiative and the Moroccan Association of Solidarity and Social Action, members of the Network of United Associations for Social Qualification (RAUQS), to manage this new space: the Language and Communication Centre.
The association "Initiative Urbaine", leader of RAUQS and manager of the Sociocultural Centre, currently has 10 permanent salaried staff, around 30 volunteers, 35 temporary teachers and more than 1,500 members.
Initiative Urbaine carries out activities in 3 main areas:
- Education and extra-curricular support; tutoring, language courses, computer training, literacy, children's club and sports.
- Animation of the territory and citizen participation; training and networking of Hay Mohammedi associations; collection of the memory of the inhabitants of Hay Mohammedi and publication of a book; strengthening and development of urban arts; capacity building for children's participation in local democratic life.
- Orientation, training and vocational integration; compilation of a guide to practices in this field (as part of the Concerted Morocco Programme), training and professionalization of young leaders, reception and vocational orientation of unemployed young graduates.
