Enabel is the development agency of the Belgian federal government, implementing Belgium’s international development policy. It operates in more than 20 African and Middle-Eastern countries to propose innovative solutions for these challenges.
Enabel works towards a more inclusive social and economic development by supporting women and young people in their fight for equal opportunity as well as universal access to healthcare, education, and vocational training. It promotes the creation of good jobs especially opportunities offered by the digital transformation.
Regarding the education sector, Enabel focuses its work mainly on quality improvement of primary and secondary education through teacher training, curriculum reform, teaching innovations – like digitisation – the introduction of student-centred teaching, and the rehabilitation and construction of schools. Enabel supports also technical and vocational education and training in many partner countries as a key strategy to address youth unemployment.
Enabel addresses the root causes of climate change. it works to improve the resilience of cities and communities as well as promoting sustainable farming and better management of access to drinking water. Faced with human-mobility challenges, Enabel is also working to make the migration a choice as well as a means to promote sustainable development and fight against poverty. In this sense, Enabel, in partnership with the European Union, published in 2020 the digital toolbox for all associations and specifically for associations working for the benefit of migrants
