The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) is an autonomous institution dedicated to joint Islamic action, with objectives that are unanimously agreed upon by the Islamic Ummah, represented by the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers and, finally, ISESCO's Constituent Conference. The Constituent Conference of ISESCO was held on 3 May 1982 in Fez, the scientific capital of the Kingdom of Morocco, thus announcing the establishment of this Organization. Through its action, ISESCO targets four sectors of activity: education, culture, STI and human and social sciences.

At the level of education, the Organization has set the following two new principal sectoral priorities for its new plan of action:
Chosen to serve as a guide in the field of education for the next three years 2016-2018, these two priorities are part of the sectoral revival of the needs needed to achieve the three major strategic objectives of ISESCO's new Action Plan, namely "Mobilizing youth to support joint Islamic action and contribute to sustainable development", "The promotion of quality, governance and equal opportunities in the educational, scientific and cultural policies of Member States" and "The development of a culture of human rights and respect for others with a view to ensuring social peace and coexistence".
- Renewal of Member States' education policies in order to move from teaching to learning
- Promotion of the role of education in development and coexistence.
